Whimsical Artworks made by the faeries of New England with help from Samantha BArlow-Beamer
Our story begins IN THE DEEP REACHES OF A FOREST in Maine…
along a hidden rocky shoreline live the faeries of Carolyn Wood. They spend their days dancing in the sunlight as it reflects off pebbles and sea glass. A steadfast community, they work together gathering wild berries and singing ancient folk songs while others fell trees and forge tools from seashells.
For lunch, they gather at the tops of trees for a feast and nap in the princles of pinecones. Afternoons are for jewelry making and harvesting. They arrive home to their faerie houses around 4 for acorn coffee and mushroom biscuits.
Under the moonlight in rhythm with a blanket of stars, they enjoy a light supper with fellow woodland creatures, and they play their fern flutes and Dandelion drums while young and old jig about. One by one, they tuck themselves in under soft blankets made of moss and have sweet dreams of more adventures.
meanwhile in that same forest, a little girl who was no more than five was crouched at the base of a tree. A small pile of shells and sticks lay next to her as she constructed a house for the faeries. Just as she was about to lay a curled old piece of birch bark for a roof, she saw a twinkling…then three more appeared just beyond the branches of a sapling. It was faeries! The faeries of Carolyn wood.
After introductions, the faeries spent the rest of the summer sharing their secrets with Samantha. They taught her to build whimsical houses, enchanted wands and magical faerie doors. She learned how to brew potions, craft jewelry and preserve natural materials from the forest and the shores of New England. She promised to only build using materials that had fallen to the ground naturally.
“You must never take what is still living. Honor our magic with bark, shells and twigs which have lived to see many moons and have fallen to the ground with dignity.”
When it was time to return home to Connecticut, the faeries gifted Samantha with a mystical faerie door. “Whisper the magic spell when you need a friend, and we’ll come through the door for a visit.” And so, for the next thirty years, Samantha continued to call upon her faerie friends and work on her crafting skills to honor all she had learned. Finally, after many years, the faeries granted Samantha the privilege of sharing their ancient artworks with the world.
Now you can be a part of the folklore with your collection of original artworks from the faeries. Little works of art from small faeries with the help of Samantha. Celebrate the beauty of nature in New England with our artwork, at our gatherings and through our art collective.
